Your website doesn’t need Flash. Sure Flash looks great, that’s why it’s called “Flash”. But your website doesn’t need it. Since the emergence of HTML5 Flash has become the equivalent of an old heavy gas guzzler from the 70s.
Flash hurts your SEO.
Flash is a stand alone application which is embeddable in most programming languages including HTML. However due to Flash being standalone, search engine crawlers are not able to effectively crawl the Flash content which means a unnecessary drop in the visibility and page rank of your website.
Flash doesn’t play well with mobile devices.
While a Android devices are able to play flash, that doesn’t mean that they should. Even with Flash’s mobile compatibility it still plays inconsistently and is an extreme drain on the battery life. As you probably already know, Apple mobile devices do not support Flash at all. Seeing how ubiquitous iOS is in the mobile market, it would not be wise to neglect a pool of millions upon millions of potential customers just for the sake of a “flashy” website.
Most Flash animation can be reproduced with HTML5.
Most of the time my clients want to use Flash for content sliders and menus. Most of the time they see an animated jQuery-CSS menu and confuse it for Flash. Rest assured that cool slideshow animations navigation can be created in HTML5, and the icing on the cake is that you won’t take an SEO or mobile device compatibility hit.
